Ayurvedic Massage Training 2012

Atreya Abhyanga Level 1, 75 hours.

Level 1:        Jan. 20-22 & Feb. 3-5 2012   

 This course adapts traditional Ayurvedic Massage for Westerners. A technician under the direction of a doctor traditionally provides massage, as this is not usually possible in the West this course will provide diagnostic tools in order to determine Dosha (individual constitution) and will introduce concepts of Ayurvedic Anatomy and Physiology, Dhatu, Srota, Mala.

The importance of Prana (Vital Energy) in Massage Therapy is central to the training and each day of the course will start with meditation and exercises for building and communicating Prana.

Protocols for balancing Vata, Pitta and Kapha and the correct use of oils per Dosha will be taught along with the three different forms of touch and the techniques of massage. You will learn to give a full body treatment to balance the Dosha of your client and gain some basic knowledge of the appropriate use of oils.

Course content;

  • Introduction to Ayurveda, The Five Elements and Three Doshas
  • The role of Massage in Ayurvedic Therapy
  • How to determine Prakriti, (individual consitution), and Vikriti, (imbalance).
  • The Three Forms of Touch
  • Vata, Pitta, Kapha massages in Ayurveda
  • The correct use of oils and herbs according to constitution
  • Massage of the back of the body
  • Massage of the front of the body
  • Massage of the head
  • Massage of the feet
  • Full body massage
  • Auto massage
  • Complete review of therapeutic massage in Ayurveda and practice

The course starts everyday with a Morning Meditation

This is a six day, 50 hour, non-residential  therapy course over two weekends and will be taught by Ann Johnston. Ann has an Ayurvedic Lifestyle, Nutritional Therapy and Massage practice in Limerick and has been trained to both practice and teach by Vaidya Atreya Smith creator of this method and founder of the European Institute of Vedic Studies. Atreya is the author of several well received books on Ayurveda including Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage upon which this course is based.

The course is run over two weekends for you to have an opportunity to integrate both your diagnostic skills and your massage practice so that on completion of the course you depart with confidence in your new skills. Ann will remain available to you after the course as a support for any questions that may arise.

Completion of two case studies  a small written exam and assignment will be required to complete the course.
