A native of Limerick, Ann Johnston, began to practice yoga in 1994 following injury in a car accident. With a background dance she found yoga an enormous assistance in regaining her health and mobility. Having attended a variety of classes, in 1999 she encountered the ‘Viniyoga of Yoga’ approach of T. Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar. The personalised approach of this tradition was exactly what she was looking for and she then sought out Hanne Gillespie, a senior teacher with AYS, Association for Yoga Studies, and continues to study and receive her personal practice from Hanne .
Ann has unertaken formal Yoga studies with AYS and Sadhana Mala completing the AYS Introductory and Foundation courses and the Sadhana Mala Yoga Teaching Training and Yoga Therapy Programme. Ann has also attended courses with Paul Harvey, Peter Hersnack and has undergone specialist Pregnancy Yoga Training with Uma Tinsmore Tulli.
Ann trained in Holistic Massage and Anatomy and Physiology, obtaining the ITEC Diploma in 2003. Again looking for a deeper and more personalised and spiritual approach Ayurveda responded and she has subsequently studied Ayurveda with Vaidya Atreya Smith of the European Institute of Vedic Studies, completing Ayurvedic Massage (Atreya Abhyanga Levels 1, 2 and 3) and Marma Therapy 2004-2008, and has completed the Lifestyle and Nutritional Therapy training with EIVS and the American Institute of Vedic Studies.
